If I tell my boss that I intend to fix some software bug, and a month later I tell my boss I still haven't fixed it, you can be sure he will say that I failed to fix the bug. He won't say that I haven't failed yet, I have only failed if at some indefinite time at least 10 years out I still haven't fixed the bug.
