you wanted to stick with the example i used of Tesla. so i did. the term friends and family can mean anything, and i was talking of executives buying the deal personally.
i made no judgement as to the deals merits, other than to say if something was a "homerun" investment deal, especially one this small in size, one would think it would be funded before anything was announced. and it is not unreasonable for one to find the idea of these guys sending the offering to the corporate email list a fact that may not be meaningless.
