It is all about an economic war between America and Russia. The Saudis being one of our allies in the oil sector have kept pumping to help bring Russia to a less belligerent attitude. That whole thing in Syria is about a Russian pipeline. Once Russia capitulates to the economic handicap of $30 oil, oil prices will skyrocket. Letting Iran start pumping oil is just one more way to punish Russia.

SDOC is so far in debt, I doubt they will recover if this goes on too long. Like many other little oil companies, they may be forced to auction off everything to pay off discounted debt to debt holders. The majors (oil companies) are licking their chops, as they have the cash to scoop up these assets and wait for a rebound.

Saudi saw the success of the US shale boom and ramped up production to put most of the competition out of business so they could regain market share. Pretty sure it is almost exclusively their fault.
