However, considering how many are under water, I'm thinking there is a set point where shorts will be able to cover (albeit, hopefully at at significant loss to themselves) due to volume of longs that will be ready to finally dump a long held losing position. That would cap the skyrocket effect...

yes but many people are in at levels like $44 (look at October 2012) or $37.50 (months this stock hovered in mid $3s (pre-split)

It seems to me that sometimes IF a company is turning around exhausted and mentally spent shareholders will either sell and wash their hands to NEW longs (maybe even insts that are less emotional) or stick it out since it now finally proves they were not wrong and they believe they will one day truly have a positive ROI now that the company is on track....

I guess this DirecTV deal is now even bigger than Google or ZTE as far as our future prospects might be concerned? Maybe they are about to do something else with telcom portfolio to fast follow the ZTE settlement.

I think VRNG is too small to engage the attention of a hedge fund short. Also, considering the companies current position with little debt and good cash reserves, I don't think it would appear that attractive to whom I would consider "smart" shorters.

Agree - makes you wonder - if they are NEW shorts (since many will short a R/S as an overall strategy) then they haven't made but about 50% on their money from the RS price - if they are OLD shorts then you would think they have made enough $$ and would close out and take their profits. Maybe this group is not about money and just either pro-Google or anti-NPE? Seems many NPE stock prices have been lower last year or so..

any idea on who the shorts could be?

arper, Rain, Spooky, Red Angus, JJS, and all longs, I have been in this stock in and out since 2012, made some good trades and reinvested it back into VRNG, at the moment I have 22,500 shares, from my 225,000 before the R/S, in over a quarter of a mill. I have my share for sale $5.00 over my cost @ $17.50, if it sells I will play it accordingly. Let's hope that longs hang on to recoup at least their investment. Problem I see is that perhaps there are not many long as deep as I am, and that the new longs are in where is trading now, if that is the case I will surely find out come FEB 2nd., wont we? good luck to all longs.
