Still, the A9X is a pretty good processor for a n00b. wink
The interesting part of this is that CPU dev time is ~4yrs. The Twister design must have started quite a while ago. If they started mass production of this chip in late 2014, then it must have taped out perhaps in late 2013.
This means that this CPU core must have been cooking for several years before then.
Apple's R&D budget when this project must have started was sub-$3 billion. It has grown significantly to >$8 billion over the last twelve months.
Obviously not all of that is chip R&D but IMO, I think it gets even more impressive from here.
They'll be able to boost perf/clock & as they move down the nodes they'll be able to clock their CPUs higher.
