dt, yes that is correct, but note your statement that said information "received from others." However, if a report is being made my someone who is stating their own direct observation, then that statement is NOT hearsay, for the testator is his or her own observation or hearing. It become hearsay the first time that report is repeated by someone who is not a direct witness.

Furthermore, if a second witness comes forward testifying that first statement is correct for second witness' own observation, then the second witness is also not hearsay, but any quote of either by anyone other than a direct observer is hearsay.

It is for these reasons why the truth in a court, and some other places, is established by a second, third,....etc witness.

Hence, there are some statements made which are direct observations which are not hearsay, and the duplication or references to those direct observations which are hearsay.
