Everything you said is pretty spot on. Most these companies aren't ran by real business people or people who have the knowledge to deliver on the business plan. Thats the problem with the cannabis sector, most the guys who have come up in this industry are hustlers without the big business backgrounds...so they try to go big and then don't know how to do it and chase easy money which is never good for shareholders.
You can have an A level idea, but if you have a C level or lower team it will never be an A level company. But if you have a C level idea paired with an A level team, then they might turn into a success. Now if take an A level idea paired with an A level team and you have the makings of a potential grand slam and thats what I look for when looking at companies to put my money in.
Its not an exact science, but I have saved a ton NOT investing in companies like this where I followed it but just didn't see the team or execution to get behind it. Still, I always follow in case I am wrong...but, more often than not these things prove to be fails.
