Larry, this is what I found out about the $ sign. Maybe some people put in from of things by habit.

Adding a $ sign to your stock symbol and then Hover your cursor over it

and you'll get an Ihub quote and chart, plus links to a detailed quote, the message board and a link to add or remove the stock symbol to your Watchlist.
