David Larson's know-how and technology related to SPORT probably has to do with the earlier licensing agreement between Titan and Mayo regarding their stapler technology, which was invented by Larson. See the PR from 2011:

My wild guess would be that he worked out how to make the stapler work with the snake arms, and now Titan has to license the added IP from Mayo to use it with SPORT.
