I use stops sparingly. I usually only bet $30 - $40 on a trade with my stops. Once it's up $1 above my purchase price I bump the stop up to my purchase price. Then again to compensate for the commission. And I ALWAYS put a stop in when I start making profits to protect my principle.

I have a long trade on an oil company and a long trade on a tech stock where I am not using stops.
