Kim stated the following:

Yes, we've been able to increase the average tensile strength.

Jon then followed that up with:

Yes, we've reported 1.79 GPa in strength of our materials. We have seen improvements in excess of that. We are now seeing as high as 2 GPa and above from the Dragon Silk line and that's come through a process of selective breeding. As we move forward, we are looking to move Dragon Silk into a larger batch production here in early 2016.

Jon did state "as high as 2 GPa and above". That is a rather confusing statement to me, but I assume it was a misspeak and means "just above 2 GPa" and was referring to the peak strength, not average strength, though the average did increase according to Kim.

I really think it is not the tonnage it is the manpower to treat the growing worms correctly.
If you are getting 20% hogh quality silk and you produce 1000 pounds you will need quite a few people grow it and to sort it.

But if you do a 200 pound batch it is easier to control the environment. You end up with 100% high quality with 5 times less people.

If there is a shortage of people a 1000 pound batch gets even worse treatment.

Compare it to an over crowded school.

You dont get many high quality students
