#8408 RE: UpNDown #8396

UpNDown, the major advantage of 64-bits is being able to handle large memory sizes. It seems that Apple's OS 10.3 will permit that. OK, a purist will say that it isn't a pure 64-bit OS - true. It is what we call an 80/20 solution. Inferior to the 64-bit Linux and Windows strategies, however: How many software houses (other than Adobe) will optimize for a segmented memory scheme for such a small part of the market? Most folks will stick with a flat address space of 4GB for their data segment, and wait for better OS support.

I note that Adobe is abandoning an important part of the Macintosh market, for other reasons (Premiere Pro, Encore DVD and Audition are no longer being developed for the Mac market because Apple has competing product). Must be a frustrating time for Adobe - for the first time in their history, they are supporting x86 development more than Mac development.
