Kim better start looking over his shoulder

Well...

According to the October newsletter:

As we closed the third quarter, the lab just finished injecting the first round of five new genetic designs. These new microinjections are constructed to improve the expression level of spider silk protein. By increasing the spider silk protein expression level we expect to see further increases in desirable material properties.

Just putting it out there.

RE CRISPR

Kim better start looking over his should, there just might be a
CRISPR that could make DS look like chicken soup.

CRISPR ia a new tool, not a product, not a shortcut to inspiration or genomic knowledge or inspired creativity.
The reporter, like most, does not actually know anything about the field just repeats what she hears from others with exaggerated exuberance.
In this case her sources were already a bit too exuberant and self-aggrandizing.
They compare CRISPR not with the state of the art but with old and weak early methods.
The current state of the art is Zinc Fingers CompoZr. (Sangamo)
This is what KBLB has been using for several years now.
CRISPR is a new and promising tool.
Its advantages are in its very wide applicability, relative precision, and possibly price though that is a commerce driven number.
For KBLB's uses in the silkworm ZFn CompoZr is as good or better and certainly more mature, more proven, and better supported.
I am certain that KBLB's scientists are watching and possibly even experimenting with CRISPR, but for the near future ZFn CompoZr is the better tool.

The one challenge for KBLB posed by CRISPR is that KBLB does not have an exclusive license for its use as they do for ZFn CompoZr, so rivals wanting to get into the transgenic silkworm business are free to use it.

However; the breakthrough that gave KBLB the first and only structurally integrated transgenic silk was not a tool it was a highly skilled insight from Dr Davis.
He designed and developed a special synthetic precursor / activator / integrator matching sequence that enabled the silkworm to incorporate the Spidroin into the backbone structure of its silk.
Others had made the silkworm produce spider silk proteins in the past but none had gotten it properly structurally integrated so that the silk was made stronger.

Piggy back could already be obsolete.

Yes, PiggyBaC is already obsolete (has been for years) and is no longer used by KBLB.
They have used ZFn CompoZr for everything after MS.

PS. I have not bought or sold any KBLB stock for more than 2 years, but this morning I swept up all of the leftover cash in my accounts and purchased another 45,000 shares!
