Wealthy investors shouldn't short because it stinks from the tax standpoint.

The link below has a tidy list of ten reasons for not shorting stocks. I can think of several more, by the way. Of course there are the two main reasons, and they especially apply to Alcoa:

1) Risk on a short is unlimited;
2) Statistically the odds are against you since stocks usually rise.
