With the lion's share of Hollywood movies coming from the Marvel and DC universes, Benny probably thought the only way to get their properties noticed was to actually have comics with more views than the big two.

I really believe he thought he had a plan that would create this massive shortcut to the top. Success stories still come out of left field, the Walking Dead for example, but Marvel and DC have such an advantage with 60-80 years of publishing behind them.
