blauboad, it is true that Intel never promised a $600 IA64 desktop - back in 1994, desktops cost $2000! However, I do remember statements by management back then that the new architecture would start displacing x86 desktops early in the new decade. Having documented so many of my memories of the time as correct, I think I'll leave this last one for others to believe or not believe as they wish.
