Yes, the HED is used for safe starting dose. Here, we're using HED to make an educated guess as to what human dose (mg/m2) is equivalent to kevetrin 200 mg/kg IP in mice where the maximum effect was noted. It's a reasonably valid relationship that can be used for more than safe starting dose. Also, in the animal models kevetrin was administered every other day at 200 mg/kg. For equivalent human dosing, kevetrin has to be administered on a comparable schedule. We're still underdosing with apparent clinical benefit. Amazing.
