MediaTek Helio X30 chips to be built by TSMC
Cage Chao, Taipei; Jessie Shen, DIGITIMES [Friday 13 November 2015]
MediaTek will unveil its Helio X30-series SoC chips in early 2016 with volume production slated for the end of the second quarter or early in the third. The X30-series will be built by TSMC using the foundry's 16nm FinFET process, according to industry sources.

Rival Qualcomm has already unveiled its next-generation Snapdragon 820 processor. The chip is reportedly being built using Samsung's 14nm FinFET process with volume production slated for the first quarter of 2016.

While competition between MediaTek and Qualcomm at the high end of the smartphone market will become fierce in 2016, the battle between between Samsung and TSMC in the 14/16nm FinFET process segment will also be intense.
