'Does anyone have any thoughts as to why Google would want to intervene?'
Google actually has been a great company, from when they 1st made their search engine in dorm rooms or apartment building, which I was using back then and continues to date, swapping advertisement services for free user content.. Actually it was goggle who, moreover made the 1st connection, as funding because they couldn't afford the expansion, so they created to worst dam spyware, (unintendedly spy) adware 'info space cookie', or something like that name. I.E. they're the biggest spy now, lol.
However, they had to do a crapload of butt kissing wit china in just a few years past. Potentially, Google has 2 interests, reinforcing their case with V, and more butt kissing to align wit china, too preserve their own, independent interest. China doesn't like Google's broad span and they're in a virtual game of chess.
They're no longer just a couple o kids messing wit programs, potentially Huge corporate governance above their heads.
