Hi G, The v-wave's direct calculation is calculated each week. The v-Wave's smoothed average is also calculated. the 'instant' number is subtracted from the smoothed average. The difference is the Oscillator value.

So, if it's a negative number that means this week's v-Wave is lower than the moving average and visa versa. A negative number would indicate that risk is dropping more quickly than is the average value. The larger the Oscillator value, the greater the discrepancy. Large Oscillator values either positive or negative usually occur during times of greatest stress or exuberance.
