'The 3-5 year plan' was for the consumption of potential acquirers. You have to give 'the illusion' you are going it alone otherwise your bargaining power is greatly diminished. It's like telling buyers of your house you are 'motivated to sell'... Which means 'all low ball offers considered.' The opposite is also true, thus, the 3-5 year plan.
