It seems like a pretty competently designed high performance general
purpose computing core. Looks like Apple is on the road to becoming
the only competitor to Intel for single thread performance now that AMD
is way beyond useless and IBM is going thread crazy like Oracle.

This seems like a reasonable assessment.

That's no accident. They've poached a lot of Intel talent over the years.

iPad Pro will be one product to watch. If this gains any traction in the enterprise, there is material risk for Intel.
