CFH - Peregrine may have some hidden meaning in the trademark filings, but chances are they do not and if they did - it will likely never be shared.
Companies put multiple requests for trademark per product and ferret out the 'winner(s)' through a rigorous process.
Take a look at the BMS TM screen for Opdivo:
Multiple filings on October 26, 2012 and it's easy to tell which one was the winner once approved.
If you look at Peregrine's requests 12-18 months from now, it will likely have 1 'Live' and 2 'Dead' trademarks, or at minimum 1 'Dead'. It is not at all likely they submitted three for the sake of requiring three. The possibility that everything you submit will be approved is close to zero, and the risk of holding commercialization on behalf of lacking an approved TM is not acceptable...
It's a net-net positive. They submitted for TM, it's required for FDA approval and commercialization, and it's what stays with the product and Peregrine for ever. Bavituximab is the Generic name, and they do not own it - they only have rights to it until patent expiration.
Usually 12-18 months to go through that cycle and get a fully approved TM. Can be done in <12 but that's pushing it.
