#8109 RE: kpf #8099

kpf, AMD confirmed mobile A64 in September? I must have missed that. Doing a quick search, I see that PCWorld reports that AMD said that during a presentation last February, so perhaps that is true. theInquirer also says that, but they could have been copying from PCWorld. I don't see this mentioned anywhere else, though, and I don't see any press release on the AMD website.

Hmmm... well, you have me convinced that AMD may be releasing a mobile in September. I have to move my opinion from don't believe to maybe. It is also possible that these two reporters interpreted an ambiguous statement by someone in an AMD booth in a way that was most newsworthy at the time.

Yes, it is true that using low speed A64s in mobiles would be a way to increase yields per wafer. It also means launching across more platform types, which brings a whole host of headaches in itself. Desktops are a much safer launch - you can manipulate cooling solutions to mitigate heat issues, and there are fewer form factors to support (which helps marshall limited testing resources). That is why I still have doubts.
