MMs are not really gone. They are controlling the queues.

83/88 bid/ask. I put a bid for 84 for 20k. and immediately CSTI put the same bid but ahead of me in the queue.
Some automatic system is not allowing me to be the higher bidder if my bid price is less than ask.
