It may be that there are at least 2 "troll" groups kicking around in the patent arena--- the earlier one accumulated patents of perhaps doubtful validity, and sued the daylights out of small industry, hoping to accumulate sufficient settlement funds to finance more ambitious ventures against larger entities.

Now we seem to have the other extreme, as you report...but it does become expensive ab initio on both sides.
