I hope you're right. I was thinking they may be able to retract ownership of shares from us and somehow claim any monies associated in each shareholder's account. It sounds ridiculous now that I'm typing it out, but I don't know if they can or cannot do this by law.

Here is my jaded opinion on the recap of the banks. Someone or something will need to be used to forestall the bank or big investors from losing money. I don't think the common shareholders are in the safety net quite yet. The response from the investment powerhouses remains to be seen. As of now the details are missing in who gets the short straw. JMO.
