It does seem like a news blackout.

AIV obviously controls its own website, but as you say there is little free press there and the local governments can dictate what's off limits- even in business news.

Still wonder if AIV's new product(s) are classified under national security. That would "justify" a blackout. But it is a grand leap from computer chairs to national security. Maybe the Red Chinese Army hackers unit needs ergonomic chairs, because of all the time spent on-line.
