Its like a straddle option, sell uwti high, wait for it to drop, then sell dwti, profit is the difference, hence why he said its needs to be volatile.

It's a hedge. You'd take profits in the one that moves up in the channel first, use those profits to double down on your opposite position and then sell off the bounce. I've done similar with UGAZ/DGAZ as nat gas has been trapped in a very predictable channel for a long time now.
