#93854 RE: Eskaminagaga #93850

I saw in their presentation that they (Spiber Inc.) are attempting to achieve up to 1.6 gigapascals in the strength of their fibers at commercialization. Though their fiber is more coarse and uncomfortable and is likely more expensive to produce, it still worried me, TBH

Let's not forget their email correspondence, respectively:

Email From Spiber(Japan)Kenichi Yoshida

Dear xxxxxxxx xxxxx

Thank you for your interest in our materials “QMONOS”.

(1)They just completed their second factory that will be able to produce up to 20 metric tons annually at full capacity.

We launched our research building last month and this building will be able to produce up to 20 metric tons annually at full capacity. We plan to improve the production capacity in stages.

(2)They will be making samples of the fibers available in 2017 for the first commercial applications and hope to be fully commercial by 2025.

We would like to produce the first commercial application within 2-3 years and hope to be fully commercial within 5-10 years.
At this time, our material is still in R&D phase and we can't confirm it, but we hope that.

We continue development efforts to release our material as early as possible.

Best Regards,

"Though their fiber is more coarse and uncomfortable"

when you take into consideration that their partners and financiers are in the auto parts business, i cant imagine why spiber would need to be concerned with the softness or comfort of their silk...it is obviously being produced for auto parts and car manufacturers...

bolt threads would need to be concerned with softness and comfort...and they recieved $40 mil to commercialize their product...

something tells me bolt threads silk not coarse or uncomfortable...and I suspect spiber could produce their silk softer and more comfortable...they just dont need to... it might not even be a good thing for what they are using it for...
