I'm not defending Amy, but Stan can seem incoherent at times. It's a mixture of his need to make a joke, put down DC Comics/characters, and his bad memory.
If they had done a bit of research 9or a trip to their local comic book shop), they would have found many characters they could have allied Spider-Man with.
I'm waiting to see the schedule for San Diego Comic Con, it should start coming out tomorrow. I'm hoping POW! stuff has a presence this year. Lot's of stuff that could be there (Zodiac, Lucky Man, Chakra, Digital Domain, etc...).
