This here Luddite will probably keep replacing his every 3 years or so, but I hope dilleet and lots of other folks do so more often.

more on the Intel roadmap

Here's MacWorld's report:
http://www.macworld.co.uk/news/index.cfm?NewsID=14862&Page=1&pagePos=1

"The P965 Express chipset, formerly code-named Broadwater, will work with Intel's new Core 2 Duo desktop processor, also known as Conroe, which is due to go on sale next month. The chipset has started shipping in volume to PC makers already, Intel said."

And here in the Inquirer's write-up, copies of some of the slides from the presentation:

And a couple interesting tidbits here:
http://www.betanews.com/article/Intel_Demos_Game_Changing_Chips/1149605890

"Later this year, Intel will introduce an integrated graphics chipset, the C965, [that] will include a technology called Clear Video, which would enhance high-definition playback of video."

and here:

"Also on Tuesday, Intel announced an "ultra low voltage" Intel Core Duo processor that will begin appearing in slim and sleek notebook designs from Dell and HP this summer, and a "600SM PCI Phone Adapter" that allows businesses to make VoIP calls from desktop PC."

Hmmmm. Dell and HP coming out with slim-line ultra-portables? Hard to believe the rumored MacBook Thin won't follow close behind.

And a PCI Phone Adapter? Well it's about time. Still can't believe Apple never did this on its own, but better late than never. The RBOCs have got to be bummed. The number of Intel VoIP prepped PCs should penetrate as many households as the entire Vonage customer base in a matter of a month or two once these start shipping. :-)
