Because they have no life? Because they enjoy being a detective and figuring out stuff and researching? Because they have a true passion for making sure newbies don't' get slaughtered?
There are a host of reasons I can think of. Do some research on how much it would cost to short sub penny stocks... it is INSANE and makes no mathematical sense, especially when compared to the potential risk.
