Anastasios "Takis" Kyriakides (born December 17, 1946) is a Greek-American businessman, inventor and founder and chief executive officer of netTALK Inc. Kyriakides holds several patents [2] and has founded a number of companies, including Lexicon Corporation, Mylex Corporation, Regency Cruise Lines [3] and netTALK.[3]
Early life and education
Anastasios Kyriakides was born in Athens, Greece, on December 17, 1946 and later immigrated to the United States, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in business from Florida International University in 1975.[4]
Career
In the 1970s Kyriakides invented and patented the LK3000, the first handheld language translation machine, a consumer electronics device that translated words from English into 12 different languages.[5] In 1978 he appeared as a guest on The Merv Griffin Show[6] to discuss his invention.

In 1979 Kyriakides founded the Lexicon Corporation to further develop and market the LK3000.[3] Lexicon was ultimately acquired by Nixdorf Computer of Germany.[7]
Nixdorf Computer AG was a computer company founded by Heinz Nixdorf in 1952.[1] Headquartered in Paderborn, Germany, it became the fourth largest computer company in Europe, and a worldwide specialist in banking and point-of-sale systems. Its main products were the 886x family of BNC, or Branch Network Computers, which ran a proprietary operating system (called DIPOS), the 8870 mini computer for business which ran a comprehensive business application software suite (called COMET written in a dialect of BASIC) and the 8812 Electronic Point of Sale (EPOS) terminal; over 200,000 of these systems were sold worldwide in the late 1970s and 1980s. Other products included private branch exchanges. In 1990, Nixdorf was acquired by Siemens and renamed Siemens Nixdorf Informationssysteme. After the splitoff of Siemens Nixdorf's Personal Computer products to Fujitsu Siemens Computers, the present day company Wincor Nixdorf is its closest incarnation.
With the carve-out from the Siemens Group and the acquisition by venture capitalists Kohlberg Kravis Roberts and Goldman Sachs Capital Partners, Wincor Nixdorf has presented itself since October 1, 1999 as an independent company with global reach. Today, the company has its own subsidiaries in 41 countries and is represented by partners in more than 60 countries

In 1983, Kyriakides founded the Mylex Corporation to develop and produce the first handheld optical scanner and VGA card for personal computers, and served as the company’s President and Chairman.[8] Mylex stock was traded on the NASDAQ under the stock symbol MYLX until it was acquired as a wholly owned subsidiary of IBM.[9]

In 1984 Kyriakides founded Regency Cruises Inc., which was listed at that time on the Nasdaq stock exchange under the ticker symbol SHIP, and served as its Chairman and Secretary.[10]
Kyriakides founded and presently serves as chief executive officer of netTALK.com, Inc., and is the co-inventor of the netTALK DUO,[11] a consumer electronics VoIP device for making telephone calls over an internet connection.[12]
