Dear Odyssey 1000 Owner,


e.Digital is committed to always improving its products and services. This firmware (embedded software) upgrade will enhance many of the features of your Odyssey 1000 personal digital jukebox. The most important changes that you will notice after installing the upgrade are:

Improved start up time – start up time of your Odyssey 1000 has been reduced to under 10 seconds, no matter how many files are stored on your device.
ID3 tag display – ID3 tags enable you to view artist, album and track information for MP3 files while in playback mode.
Enhanced ‘Back’ button functionality – enables navigation from the play screen to the last selected folder. Return to the current selection by pressing ‘Menu.’
FM tuning in foreign countries
Improved VoiceNav® voice navigation
Improved voice recording quality and battery life
Improved mode switching – reduced time delay between mode selections.
To install the Odyssey 1000 firmware upgrade:

1. You must have previously installed e.Digital’s Music Explorer software that came with your Player in order for this upgrade to install properly.

2. Go to www.edigital.com/product-support/odyssey1000_firmware_update.html

3. Click on the Odyssey 1000 Firmware Upgrade icon.

4. Save the file to your desktop.

5. Unzip the file.

6. Run the Upgrade file from your desktop by double clicking the icon

7. The Firmware Installation screen will appear, click the Set Up button, this will start the Firmware Update Wizard

8. The Odyssey 1000 Firmware Update screen will appear, click Next.

9. Connect the power adapter to your Player and an AC power source.

10. Connect your USB cable to your Player and to a USB port on your PC.

11. Click Next.

12. When the next screen appears, perform a Windows Safe USB removal function. Click the USB icon on the Windows taskbar. From the popup select the Stop command.

13. The next screen will indicate that it is safe to remove your ‘Mass Storage Device’ from the system, Click OK and remove the USB cable from your Player.

14. On the final screen, click Finish.

15. Your player is now upgrading, observe the upgrade messages on the LCD and please wait for the program to finish. Do not interrupt the upgrade while it is in progress.

16. You have now successfully upgraded your Odyssey 1000.




User Notes:

In order to experience the improved start up time, after installing the firmware upgrade it will be necessary to connect the Odyssey 1000 to the USB. Wait for “USB Connected” message on your Odyssey 1000 LCD screen then disconnect the player.
Please be sure to always use the ‘Safely Remove Hardware’ function when disconnecting your USB cable from the Player. The ‘Safely Remove Hardware’ function can be accessed from the USB icon on the right side of your Windows Task Bar. Click on the icon and a message indicating that it is safe to remove your device will appear.
To turn the ID3 tag function on or off, simply click on the scroll bar while in playback mode of an MP3 file.

It is a PR on the PR section of e.Digital's web site. http://www.edig.com/news/releases/pr062503.html

Just like the PR about the "funding," they did not put it on the wires.

They should have just e-mail the owners of the players to let them know the long-awaited firmware update is finally available.

I got the email and I've never even been able to find an O-1000 let alone buy one.
