Yes, Rothko has appreciated enormously over the past 30--even 20--years. They weren't cheap then, but didn't sell for tens of millions. Back when they were painted, they WERE within practically anyone's budget.

Regarding "high end art"...

(...which Eddie Vakser and Scott Weinert have NOTHING whatsoever to do with as theirs is cheap, disposable, Dollar Store, lowest common denominator, flavor of the month garbage that NO wealthy collector would have).. the current issue of The New Yorker had a commentary by Adam Gopnik on last week's art auctions in which a "so so" Picasso fetched $179 million. He observed that back in 1980 irascible critic Robert Hughes wrote in "The Shock of the New" --his synoptic history of modern art (which I've read)-- that a "mediocre Picasso from 1923 had just fetched $3 million." The NY article goes on to explain that the current goings on in the art market has much less to do with artistic quality and everything to do with the hyper inflation going on among things the wealthy oligarchy aggressively compete for (i.e. real estate, jewelry, planes, yachts, cars, art etc)-- those being the same "brand-name goods" which remain in short supply.

People need to carefully read Eddie's grand plan for generating wealth. It involves his claim that AURI will somehow secure the copyrights to artworks that wealthy Chinese will find irresistible.. then sub-license those images to a Chinese company which will reproduce them as prints and sell them through their stores.. and that this Chinese company will split the royalty they receive (typically 10%) on a 50/50 basis with AURI. AURI will then have to take their half of the 10% (i.e 5%) and pay the artist their share. Imo it's going to take a ton of little royalty slivers to amount to any significant revenue.

The sad fact remains that Vaksker has never yet followed through with ANYTHING. All his companies have short-lived pops then are cellarboxed at .0001. These include PRPM, SUTI, PBHG, TDEY, TSRR (Grey) and ARTS (revoked). Imo this time will >>not<< be different!
