Apple plans to add a new supplier for LCD driver ICs, say sources

Apple reportedly plans to add an additional maker to its supplier list for LCD driver ICs as it aims to further ramp up the market share of its iPhone, iPad and MacBook product lines in China and other emerging markets, according to sources at Taiwan's IC design houses.

Taiwan-based LCD driver IC suppliers including Novatek Microelectronics, Himax Technologies and FocalTech Systems are being indicated as the potential suppliers, said the sources.

Novatek, Himax and FocalTech have delivered LCD driver IC parts to Apple for verification, indicated the sources, adding that Apple is likely to inform the new supplier by the end of the second quarter of 2015.
