The poster was not responding to your butanol post, the AMA expressed concern about the damage caused by ethanol in motors and fuel systems that were designed for gasoline only (as nearly all pre-1970's IC engines and fuel systems were).
As for me, I'd much rather have the government mandate the country's fuel gasoline supply to be contaminated with butanol than to contaminate it with ethanol. Literally hundreds of millions of dollars in damages would have been almost entirely eliminated.
But since the synthesis of butanol from petroleum is far cheaper than from corn or cellulose, it certainly wouldn't hold a candle to the ethanol lobbyists, would it?
