I tend to think that CEOs have this belief that their duties include the axiom " if you can't say something good, don't say anything at all."

Their egos require that those around them think well of them , including other execs, staff and shareholders.

Otherwise, they must look in the same mirror that others see them and see a
failure, somethin g their egos cannot handle.
