Kobi - wazzzup??
I kinda razzed on Pup recently after his 'throw-away, not tested, P&A'd post. I still have a lot of problems getting my head around that concept. It's a tough one to swallow but maybe he knows what he knows. It's not beyond the realm of possibility, nor would it discount the possibility of future great success in the JDZ.
However - after just having bellied up to the bar for the big sig bonus ($123 million or so), how would the paying partners (who don't think that $50 million is chump change) feel about forking over more cash for a throw-away (or more correctly a 'stratigraphic test') well to be P&A'd?
The throw away concept is much more understandable if all partners are majors - or if it is the second or third well after a first major discovery well so the partners can feel comfortable about recouping their investment. NOT TO MENTION, what may be the biggest detriment of all to a first well discard - the reputation and face-saving that the JDA and especially Sao Tome would feel they are suffering. OBO-1 is a showcase well for them - they're already pizzed that it's such a tight hole. Now they're even more pizzed at the very weak pr from CVX. I don't think the JDA would have stood for a purposely discarded first well effort.
Just my opinion --- we'll see.
