You have to use spreadsheets if you go to college

Well, you have to use wordprocessors and presentation software (MSWord, Powerpoint, etc.) if you go to High School, even Middle School for that matter. Further, most textbooks are available online - so kids need to be able to access these textbooks on a bigger screen. On top of this, middle schoolers and high schoolers need a versatile device for accessing Edmodo (FB equivalent for schools) where teachers and students schedule specific activities and discuss classroom assignments.

All these activities involve quite a bit of typing - something that you cannot do very well on a smartphone or tablet. The only device that can allow for all these activities is the laptop or a hybrid.

I would so far as to say that you cannot do well even in Middle School without a laptop or hybrid. And I'm pretty sure that is the case world over. So there is a huge population of laptop users - current and future.

FPG is living in a bubble with no visibility to the real world.

So:
A) You don't have to use spreadsheets if you go to college? And
B) You've ignored every post ever in which I said, "with a keyboard and a screen"? (i.e. Chromecast and Bluetooth.)

Bubble indeed...

I imagine that students using products like Blackboard and TurnItIn in middle-schools and high-schools would want to use a PC.

Blackboard is a course management system used in high-schools and colleges to manage announcements, assignments, online collaboration, syllabi, scheduling, grades, etc. It can be used in online and in-person classes.

TurnItIn is an online tool to check your papers for plagiarism and many professors submit student papers to verify that there aren't plagiarism issues. Students can submit their papers before emailing them in.

Many textbooks today include an online component which is often easier to use on a PC than on a tablet. Sometimes you can't do them on a tablet when PC software components like Flash are required. The reason for doing this is to make less useful the ability to resell textbooks. It also reduces the amount of work that teachers have to do in coming up with tests, grading them, etc.

I think officially it's the 'No child is to leave MS Office behind' program.
