Also, laser sintering is a far more mature technology than EBM and thus is harder to improve. This means that as time goes on, the virtues of EBM relative to laser sintering are likely to improve, making it more competitive, leading presumably to greater market share.

Oh the joy of seeing another Geoffrey Moore fan! Its amazing that his theories are 25 years old and still so relevant.

I'm not sure I would be splitting the metal 3D printing market into Laser and EBM though, I believe the industrial metal 3D market has about knocked off the first bowling pin (medical implants) and is moving to knock off the second (aero engines/parts).

Of the companies in the sector though Arcam because of its approach to the sector is slightly behind in one and ahead in the other.

The second pin is larger than the first but just being across the chasm is significant...

A bit like the relational database market in the 80's had some suppliers hitting the high transactional markets and others the large data market before they all started amalgamating and creating Oracle! its all part of his Gorilla Game /Chasm theory
