The majority of info on that I've seen (incl various articles & techie blogs) indicates that Sony briefly tried it but changed their mind (for whatever reason) & went w/ another tech, but a few of these tech commentators appear to be behind the curve & don't keep up w/ the current status.
Jamis...a bit more follow-up on your Sony/QDot question... here, as reportedly stated by a Sony rep: a Sony rep pointed out that its TVs were actually the first to market quantum dots way back in 2013 with models like the KDL-55W900A. As for the Truluminous technology found on the better 2014 sets, as well as nearly every 4K 2015 Sony TV? "We developed our own nano-crystal technology, which we have been using for the last two years that offers the same benefits as Quantum Dots." http://www.cnet.com/news/sony-tvs-go-flatter-4k-and-android-powered/ They don't state what 'their own [alternate] nano-crystal tech' might be, so, who-knows[?]
