#32686 RE: EDMGUY #32676

No offense taken. I actually like these discussions. Believe it or not, I do respect other people's thoughts.

The equation was a response to a statement saying that closed-loop control is likely years away. I beg to differ. I used the equation to emphasize that GE does not have time. There is not one article that states, "AM will be a faster way of manufacturing". There are plenty of sources that says, "Building a part by AM takes hours". The speed of these machines are measured in cm3/hr. GE needs to fill these orders or, like Windbag says, there will be an assectomy.

So we know that Sigma Labs called INSPECT the "closed-loop process controller". If INSPECT is not a closed-loop process, then Sigma Labs wrongly advertised INSPECT for years? First PDF:
https://www.google.com/search?q=site:b6sigma.com+%22closed+loop%22&ei=WfQpVePnL4jsgwS4j4GQCQ

Then Sigma Lab's collaborates with Materialise for their AM Machine Control Software technology. (The bolded letter are not mine but from Materialise's webpage)
http://software.materialise.com/machine-control-software

Our Machine Control Software interprets the sliced build data that is transferred to the AM machine, steers this machine and helps to ensure a smooth and trouble free production.

And Sigma Lab's patent explains how closed-loop functions:

I don't know...I can envision Sigma Labs having control, Materialise having a way to express that control, and a closed-loop processor soon.

Then I can see how GE can build all those nozzles. Remember also that we have not even taken inspection time into consider. How long to we need for inspection? If qualification is performed during the build, then the time is saved.

"3-D printing often ends up being a black art. A part is made out of thousands of layers, and each layer is a potential failure mode. We still don't understand why a part comes out slightly differently on one machine than it does on another, or even on the same machine on a different day."

No pissing match, EDMGUY. Just discussions and nothing personal. I thank you for the opportunity, actually. These things people bring up add to the board, I think.

Cheers
