Not a very good comparison. Message board traders are nearly all amateurs. Some do talk to each other on the phone, though it seems the majority like to preserve their anonymity by using aliases. And in a sense, they don't compete. They like to be part of a "group" that trades together. Often the group is led by a self-styled guru. He may be frontloading and dumping into his own hype, but many don't seem to realize that.
