Great posts on Earth Day having the Arab Oil embargo and the Love Canal along with many environmental catastrophe's in the 70's was a wake up call. We heeded for awhile and legislation addressed in some areas. For years we had gentle to stronger Public Address reminders to respect and take personal action to address. Of course those were eliminated so we could have more commercial commercials. Now as I pick up the trash at least weekly along my frontage I wonder does anyone ever get a ticket for littering anymore....

Daily contact with people and kids that have never raised any of their own food or spend time without their portable electronic devices. Nature is something to see on TV or their phone screen. Its really scary especially given the real impacts of our actions. What will happen if it doesn't rain or snow in Ca.? Or Nevada? Saw that Ca. may have only enough water for another year? That already 98.5% of the state is in severe drought in March. Yet no contingency plans exist. Even CBS 60 minutes did a nice piece on it yet nothing is happening....except to keep drilling deeper and deeper wells. The farmers are desperate but it seems like most are oblivious.

I planted at least 1 tree on Earth Day for the first 5 years we lived here. Subsequently I have planted almost two hundred in my quest to develop a respectable nut and fruit orchard. One year I planted 70 apple and nectarine trees. It was hard work... for a almost solid 2 months after we had rain like I have never seen in this part of the country. 75% of them drowned the following 2 years of drought and deer raids finished off the rest of them. I planted more and now have a decent supply of fruit but not the U-pick operation I had once envisioned. So developing a sustainable operation has been a struggle and its help deepen my appreciation of the efforts of those that do and how the earth functions. We have grown complacent and are forever expecting more. We have overshot our Earth's carrying capacity. You can't fool Ma Nature for ever and keep overdrawing from her bank. As I look around today the momentum from Earth Day is mixed. But we appear to be losing more of the momentum each year recycling and organics are encouraging, much else not so good.

Yes, is entirely worthwhile to expect shared experience to raise the level of chat board exchanges. Problem is knowledge is attacked as though all were out to rob the rest blind even though years of actual activity prove a lie. Like any cancer, excising as near the good flesh means good growth can continue. You learn harsh and sudden joint denouncement works fastest and best. "Surly" as example is rude and unfriendly. Why would you ever befriend an attacker of that you know to be true. Take as well the constant bombardment of our CEO from many who had never even bothered to meet the gentleman despite years of opportunity. Again, after years of proving right I'm labeled harsh and wrong for holding to what I actually know to be true and even providing some who DID bother and agree. So Mexus wise? I trust we are past the point 0f accepting wrong with excuses and test all future with what's been proven correct. Yet to hear single "I'm sorry" which there's no need knowing in actuality was proven correct all along but I've survived a great deal worse,up last smelling another rose to admire along the way. Them's the things that count and SURPRISE! get to spend as well. 8
