If you noticed, Nvidia wants to get royality (free) money from Intel and this may be the only way to get it.

Their current cross licencing agreement is in force for a couple more years so I think that is rather unlikely. Anyway if Intel wanted something it would just pay money otherwise it wouldn't really want it.

But TSMC is having problem with yield with high 16nm 3D process, so who knows.

I haven't seen reports of any current problems at 16nm, quite the reverse if anything.
