Sheriff Mack's GoFundMe is Doing Well

So me being the curious type I went to see how well Sheriff Mack's GoFundMe campaign was going.

As I understand it Sheriff Mack was extremely anti the ACA, and those stinking libruls to boot.

The fund is doing surprisingly well and the donation comments are.................

I couldn't find exactly the right word so just jump over that orange cloud thing and see if you can think of one.

$50 from this person.....
just your average mild mannered gay liberal aetheist wishing you a speedy recovery. may situations like this on a broader scale act as a catalyst for positive change as well as an opportunity for personal growth.

$25
Best regards from a Michigan liberal.

I'm terribly sorry about the misfortune that you've recently suffered. It's slightly irksome to me that you ranted and raved against the Affordable Care Act and then ask for charity. You and I both would not be in this awkward position if you had complied with the individual mandate. I still feel compelled to give because it would offend all of my left-wing and Christian sensibilities if I decided that you weren't worthy of charity. I literally found five dollars on the ground of a parking lot yesterday. Here is that five dollars plus another five of my hard-earned cash. You said that it was “difficult and humbling” to ask for help. I only hope and pray that you can find the humility to admit that you were wrong.

"When you do this to the least of these, you do this to Me." But you are not among the "least of these", you had a position of power and responsibility and chose to use it to speak against the ACA, which has saved other people from your present crisis. I am very sorry for your current health and financial situation, and I hope that you will use this contribution to purchase health insurance--and that you are grateful that your pre-existing condition will now not be a barrier to that.

$10
I really think you ought to just get coverage through the ACA using a fraction of this donation, and donate what remains. Why you would be against universal healthcare is completely beyond me, but hopefully this experience will have taught you something. And also seeing how a lot of gay people have donated to your "cause", I think the decent humane thing to do would be to admit your irrational hatred for a segment of the population was misplaced. Hope you get well. It would be a damn shame if your grandchildren were deprived grandparents, even bigoted ones who think nothing of destroying the lives of those in need.

$25
This is your opportunity to walk in another mans shoes and understand at a personal level what millions of people in this country were dealing with before the Affordable Care Act. You are fortunate that the ACA became law and you and your wife can now get affordable insurance, even with your preexisting conditions. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

$50
I am donating for two reasons. First, taking care of each other is what life is about. Whether it's fellow Americans with medical issues, starving children on the other side of the world, or just loving an animal that otherwise might not get that love we all need to look out for each other. Secondly, I want to help to prove that not everyone who disagrees with your views (because Lord knows we REALLY disagree with your views) acts like those in the comments section. You and I are very different from each other but we're still people that can do good in this world. I do ask that you do the same on both accounts. Help those that need it (yes, that includes the women, the gays, and the minorities) and prove people wrong about you. Get better soon.

$20
I am a gay liberal living in Utah. I hope this modest contribution helps in some small way. Good luck and be well.

Dear Sheriff, I'm sorry to hear that you are so sick. I was on deaths door, unable to afford medical care or medicine that I needed to survive. Then the ACA was passed, and I was finally able to get medical insurance with my pre-existing condition, that was impossible before. In a nutshell, the very policies you so boisterously oppose were responsible for saving my life.

Begging strangers on the Internet to pay my expenses never crossed my mind! As an Independent Atheist Democrat, who was raised to be self-sufficient, the very thought goes against everything I stand for. However, I do believe in helping others when I can, so here's $5 toward your expenses. I wish you a speedy recovery, and hope that you perhaps might see why the ACA is an important policy that has and will help many people like me who would have died without it. But will you admit that you were wrong? That perhaps, you didn't understand WHY our citizens need this help? Our country cannot succeed when so many are suffering and dying without access to affordable healthcare. Please.open your heart and mind to the needs of your fellow Americans.

There are so many it's hard to choose which ones to copy. Some are more forthright than others.

Go see for yourself, it's a thing of beauty..........

UPDATE

Just a little update to explain that there are two comment threads on the GoFundMe page.

One thread on the right is from the people who are actually sending donations.

Another comment thread on the left and under the main header is open to all.
