The biggest reason for sales is to generate traffic not to dump old inventory. I think you meant clearance instead maybe. Get them looking at sales items and they buy other things as well That possibly aren't on sale while they're there. I've seen where companies drop price of some items below cost just for the traffic. Why because they know the majority of shoppers will move on more than just the sales item. You buy severely discounted products in bulk so you can sale the item at eye popping price and still make a profit. by the time it gets to where you want to put plu on clearance you still make a few points. Heavy traffic on heavily discounted product adds up. You may have averaged 20% margin instead of 40% but you in most cases can double or triple your sales and now you have new and repeat customers to go along with it. We're not talking last year's technology were talking leggings. who can tell old from new unless you've seen before. A black pair of leggings today will be just as sought after as a black pair 2 years from now and so on even with the unique prints. Women have in their minds made up on what they like and when it comes to leggings it doesn't matter if they came out last year as long as they look good. Thanks to survey of the group of women I have around me.
