#20706 RE: Daktari #20705

As annoying as LTG's posts tend to be, I would rather take the approach of killing him with the science and engineering fallacies behind his claims, rather than outright deletion of his posts (although if they become more distracting, I will consider that).

I'd invite LTG to go over to Google Scholar and search for the hundreds of scholarly articles that have been published on the ergonomics of surgery in general, and especially the ergonomics and physical injury risk to surgeons who perform laparoscopic surgery. You'll find that young, eager, badass surgeons who spend their whole life standing in the sterile field and keeping their elbows locked at right angles while they manipulate laparoscopic instruments grow into old, crippled surgeons.

I know a number of top surgeons who have seen their careers extended by 10 years due to the availability of the daVinci. The staff in the OR does a fine job tending to the patient in the sterile field while the surgeon comfortably sits in the corner at the console and does their thing.

IMHO, console-based robotic surgery provides a way forward for minimally invasive surgeons to perform their craft without injuring themselves, and keeps experienced surgeons operating for longer. That is something that Surgibot will unfortunately never do.
